About
The Plan is a project space that is committed to equity, the exchange of ideas among disparate groups of people, and to the exhibition of artwork that is not easily commodified. We believe that art in three dimensions, performance, and two dimensions—all artwork—must be inclusive, responsive, and engaging. By leaning on a diverse and ever-expanding roster of guest-curators, The Plan fosters an anything-goes environment that encourages artists to follow curiosity and exercise risk-taking creative strategies.
As the SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic collided in 2020 with our nation’s reckoning with structural violence, political unrest and systemic racism, it became apparent that the Chicago art community needed more opportunities to show art that did not have a financial prerogative. Through art, The Plan offers an environment for artists and visitors to process, feel, reflect, and engage in civil debate.
Submit
The Plan is always seeking artist-curators. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. We are particularly interested in artwork and projects that are equitable, experimental, and respond to the gallery.
For curators:
Your group show will be considered on the basis of a collective portfolio. Combined in a single Google Drive folder, submit images from artists that you intend to have in your show. Images should serve as evidence of work that has been done, not work that will be done.
Proposals and CV’s will not be considered in the application process, there will be time to discuss these later.
For solo and two-person shows:
It is OK for an artist to curate themself into an art show. Please submit to The Plan as though you are a curator. Be sure to include enough images in a Google Drive Folder to indicate your range of work.
Do not include your CV or a proposal.
When submitting:
Be certain to include the name and contact information of the primary curator. Preferred portfolios will be submitted in a shared Google Drive folder.
